About Us. Firstly to introduce myself, I am Martyn Allen, owner and optometrist of Shaw’s Opticians. Since arriving in Heywood in 2009 I have become very fond of the clients we have at the practice, and of the town in general, and now consider this to be my second home, which considering I spend 6 days a week here, is not surprising!

My work as an optician, prior to coming to Heywood, was, to say the least, considerably different. I was fortunate to be clinical director of one of the most exclusive practices in the country, in Manchester city centre. Celebrity clients, film stars, soap stars, millionaire business owners etc were almost daily visitors, together with the work I used to do with Granada on TV shows such as Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes. It wouldn’t be unusual to find David and Victoria Beckham or Ray Winstone sat in my reception waiting to see me !!

Using my experience, I have created a relaxing environment at Shaw’s Opticians where you can come and have your eyes examined and to choose your new spectacles, to be fitted with contact lenses, buy sunglasses or bring your children for their eyewear needs. Those clients who have been to us a few times will know what I mean. A visit to the opticians doesn’t need to be stressful, it can be fun too!
